April 21, 2007 NOTE: Pampers spokesperson said they should be on shelves really soon. They were shipped out a couple days ago! So big stores should have pampers size 7 by Friday for sure!!!

towels as a diaper
After we start using diapers some people find the cost of disposables too much. Buying cloth diapers can be too much right away, and you don't know how to sew your own. 
There is a solution as long as you can do laundry. Use your towels. If you don't have enough towels you can buy more very little money at a thrift store. Often they will have big bags of towels for less than $5.00.
You will need plastic pants and generally you can find these in most pharmacies that have medical health care needs section. They can cost about $10 for three pair. These will work until you can afford to buy better ones just as the towels will work until you can buy or make your own cloth diapers.
Here is one
way yo use a towel as a diaper. Try this and experiment on your own.
Get a big towel and fold it in half and lay it down. For fun you can use a kid's beach towel with cool pictures on it.
Then you sit on the towel.
Pull it up between your legs and twist it
Now you can pin it on the sides like you do in your diaper.
You can put smaller towels inside the bigger towel to make it thicker and it will soak up more wetness.

Shammy your bottom!
I was looking about in different forums when I found this idea for diapers. Use a shammy! No experiance here but here are two that
have from Baby Matt's forum...
"I use cloth terrys at night, one HUGE white towel on the outside, and two smaller good sized terrys inside and a shammy between the two smaller towels." - Tigger
Not only will this soak up lots, you also get a cheaper use diaper out of this for those that are looking to try cloth diapering or can not afford to buy them. You can make your own as this previous post points out, still for the less inclined, what a cool option.

"I also use the shammy's. I am not talking about the leather car wash shammy's. What I use is the cloth-like car wash shammy's. I don't know what they are made of. They hold an enormous amount of wetness. They really soak it up! I was at a flea market (outdoor bargain shopping area). I was told of how good they were for holding water and I thought how great the would be as an insert for my night diapers. I got some and tried just one between the layers of cloth and terry towels and WOW! What a difference! You can buy them at places that sell car wash supplies." Just look around!" - wondertot

Make you own diapers
Many people would like to make their own cloth diapers. We have been asked if there are any easy means of doing so. Here is one.
I found this youtube video on making a diaper in 14 easy steps if you have basic sewing skills. The diaper being demonstrated is for a baby, you can do the same following the instructions using your usual adult disposable diaper as a template.
You will use a larger soaker than described and you can use any material you like. Finally if you do not intend to use Velcro to close the diaper, you could use snaps or go with diaper pins instead.

I think I went triple thickness, sewed along three sides, turned it inside out, folded the remaining end in and sewed across that. They work well and have lasted well. This is something just about anyone can do if they have access to a sewing machine...NO skill here!!"

On ABY, a new discussion in the forums is about eBAY ending the resale of used cloth diapers/nappies. One eBAY seller of diapers posted a call to action on eBay."Recently auctions for cloth nappys which are not new have been stopped
It is claimed that they contain Adult material as they are offering items which are desirable in a not very nice way by rather unwanted members of society. (I am being very careful with my language)
If you sell nappies and want to continue to do so, or if you wish to be able to buy them I would recommend writing to the company which runs this auction and making your position felt or if you have any way of getting this noticed by the media it may help...

Soon after, I met the girl of my dreams, “Jenny,” and decided to tell her the truth. She was pretty calm about the whole thing—not ecstatic, but calm.
